Artist Statement My name is Colleen Daniel and I was born in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe). My passion for Art started at an early age at Junior School where Art was my favourite subject, followed by High School where Art was again my favourite subject. With encouragement from my Art teacher I painted a Japanese flower arrangement in Oils for my Matric Art exam and obtained a distinction mark and since then I never doubted my artistic gift.

My first Art Exhibition was held in March 1981 in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe) and all the paintings were sold as there was a wide variety to choose from, from the Victoria Falls to Lions to Portraits – you name it, it was there. I also had several paintings of magnificent stormy skies where the storms had created unusual cloud patterns and the land areas of the paintings were a complete bright contrast to the storms.
My paintings were in oils, acrylics and watercolours.

I emigrated to Durban, South Africa and I have been painting for over 40 years.

I am a well known South African artist who paints in oils, acrylics, watercolours and also with mixed media. I believe that Art is a way of expressing how you feel about everything around you and the ability to visualize it and then portray it on a painting.

I also knew God in my artistic journey and my paintings are a revelation of my soul.

I strive to reflect the true diversity of our beautiful African continent in my paintings. My portraits tells a story about a person's life as these portraits capture the likeness and character of people. My medium for portraits is either pastels, or acrylic paints or oils.
I have taught students and I have held successful art exhibitions.

I recently opened the African Art Studio to exhibit and sell my paintings and to also promote and sell beautiful handmade crafts which are made by extremely talented African men and African women. The African Art Studio has given them valuable opportunities to display and sell their original one-of-a-kind absolutely magnificent handmade crafts. These handmade crafts were taught from generation to generation i.e. from great-grandfather to grandfather to father to son or to daughter - and these crafts all capture the likeness and character of the African animals and local African culture. By selling their crafts through the African Art Studio the African men and African women are able to receive and earn thier own income.
