Artist Statement Born in 1957 and raised in Holland Michigan, Kathy has always had a creative side. She was constantly doodling and art was by far her favorite subject in school.

One evening while participating in “Up on the rooftops” tours in Holland Mi, she came upon a group of emerging artists in a studio setting who were being mentored by a local artist. It became her dream to join one of these groups to explore her talent.

In 2015 she took her first oil painting class through a local studio and met the teaching artist who was coincidentally the head of the rooftop group. In 2016, Kathy joined a studio with 8 others and has been discovering and honing her talent ever since with classes and mentoring from her peers.

Kathy entered her first major art competition in 2018 getting into the Top 20 for the Art In Bloom tulip time poster for 2019. She was honored by taking first place in the People's Choice award with her Alcohol Ink painting “After The Rain”.

Kathy is now enjoying painting with oils, acrylics and Alcohol inks. It’s her love of animals that began her pet portrait commissioned paintings. She enjoys watching them come to life on the canvas and it brings joy to watch the owners see the final product.

She is mostly self-taught with the inks by exploring new techniques and styles on her own and connecting and collaborating several AI groups. She shares her love of this free flowing medium with others via her “Into to Alcohol Inks” classes offered at Studio Nine. Finding her comfort zone, she has officially retired from her fashion business to work on her newfound passion.

Inspiration for her paintings comes from her love of color, florals, animals, and nature.
