Artist Statement Robert Mahosky is a native of Florida, and has been living in Asheville, North Carolina area since 1992.

A degree in art has taught me the the technical skills, and my work as a television news videographer has brought the images into my head. I choose to work on clayboard or thickly-treated paper rather than canvas. I meticulously draw each painting in graphite and pen and ink, then I layer on the color with oil glazes.

I am forever connected to my African series. These are painting of the children of Rwanda, right after the genocide of the 90's. Camps, filled with the orphans of war greeted my camera with apprehension, curiosity, and even smiles. Their eyes tell the story, in life and in my paintings, if only the world would stop to look into them.

I am expanding on this collection by building on these emotions. The sturdiness of the sun flower, the power of a elephant, the peacefulness of a tree frog, and the intensity of a blueberry has my attention. I've always been interested in the details, which is why I pay careful attention to the natural state of these plants and animals.

This is how I see the world, through lines, and layers in color, moments in time. The innocent faces of Rwanda, plants and animals crying out to be noticed have been captured for you.
