Description Our 6 year old grandson was playing with some markers and produced this figure which to me had a real sense of freedom of expression. Make of it what you will. A wave of the cap , a happy 'Hello', a step in the right direction or just 'Hey It's me and I'm happy, happy , happy!'
Terry Reid, St. Catharines Member Since July 2008 Artist Statement Every year a few weeks before Christmas, my father would haul out his cutting tools and some old brown linoleum and start carving his Christmas card design for that year on the old butternut desk. I suspect that's where a lot of the gouges came from. As a boy I loved to sit by him, smell the linoleum and watch the reindeer or trees or pipers take shape. In 1945 he did a musical scale with the dot dot dash for "V" for victory. He's been gone a long time now and I have retired and now my grandson loves to "ink" as he calls it when I'm puddling away in the cellar. I took art history at the University of Toronto and took drawing lessons with a renowned Toronto artist, John Gould. I do linocuts and woodcuts and the subjects can vary from grandkids to turtles and Jokers and Harlequins to puddy cats. My wonderful mother and father taught me to love nature, keep an open mind and try to see the beauty where others do not. I hope that people enjoy my prints as much as I did in their creation.
