Artist Statement Motivated by the fleeting impressions of ordinary faces, events, and objects I encounter everyday I often depict apparently uninteresting things just as they lay, and try to express in my art that unique quality about it that caught my eye. I find myself repeatedly attracted to items handmade from natural resources, attracted by their balance, line, and rhythms. I am intrigued by nature’s lingering expression in everyday objects, a carved stone, a wooden toy, a marble box, or a clay bowl. However I am not limited to those, the brightly colored fabric of a dress, the softly curved neck of a sleeping baby, or the light reflected from a rain puddle are just as likely to attract my attention and elicit a noteworthy response. I try to express that elusive, flickering, quality in the contemporary imagery of my work, to bind beauty, holding it trapped and echoing in the mind as does a lovely poem, a truthful phrase, or a brilliant idea.
