Jonny White, London Member Since August 2008 Artist Statement It seems photography has always been in my life. My first passion was planes and my Dad would take me to airshows as a boy to watch the spitfires and hurricanes fly over. Picking up my moms basic point-and-shoot camera and taking blurry photos seemed an obvious way for me to enjoy the planes more, the results were never great but I enjoyed taking the pictures, the anticipation of going to the chemists to pick up the freshly developed picture. Over time I upgraded: first to my Dad's Pentax ME Super then a new Pentax SLR and finally into the world of digital and all that time my love of planes and my growing interest in photography persisted.
My dream was always to join the RAF, to fly, to travel but my need for wearing glasses meant that dream was not going to come true. At the time I was sad but now I'm glad as being turned down by the RAF allowed me to pursue photography instead. I graduated from Brighton University in 2010 with a BA in Photography and since then I have lived and worked in the UK, South Africa and now Canada. I feel so lucky to be able to explore what I love through photography.
My passion is news photography. I always want to be at the same place and time as breaking news it is exciting to be in the middle of the action and in the future I want to be able to say 'I was there' when I look back at the big events in our history.
