Description The Rhine River begins in the Swiss Alps. South of Chur, Switzerland, it flows northwesterly, and joins the Voder Rhine on its way north to Lake Constance. Near Schaffhausen, it plunges 75 ft. over Rheinfall. At Basel the river turns north and enters the Rhine Graben, a flat-floored rift valley lying between the Vosges Mountains on the west and the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) on the east. From Bingen to Bonn the river flows through the Rhine Gorge with its terraced vineyards and castle-lined cliffs. This stretch is often called the 'Romantic Rhine'. Next, the river flows past Bonn, where it emerges onto the North German Plain. At the Netherlands frontier, it divides into two parallel distributaries, the Lek and the Waal as it crosses a wide, marshy plain and a great delta before entering the North Sea. It passes through or borders on the countries of Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, France, and the Netherlands, and is navigable from the North Sea to Basel, Switzerland a distance of some 500 miles. From Cologne, cargo must travel by barge pushed by smaller ships.

Artist Statement I'm a retired teacher and curator with a love of books and photography. I enjoy playing with images until they appear to my liking.

I live in Streetsville, Ontario, Canada, which is part of the the City of Mississauga located immediately west of Toronto on the north shore of Lake Ontario. I live with, Karen, my wife of 37 years and with my pug, Georgie. I have two daughters who have presented me with three grandchildren so far. There is one more grandchild due in July
