Artist Statement I work as a professional philosopher, teaching and writing about philosophy, but my first love was fine art. I began life as an art student at Parsons School of Design in New York. Parsons was unique among the great east coast art schools in that they wanted their students to be well-rounded and they emphasized academics. They sent students over to the New School to take liberal arts courses, among them, aesthetic theory. I was hooked and went on to study philosophical aesthetics at University of Michigan, and from their, my Ph.D. in philosophy at Columbia University. But through aesthetics, I was somehow able to stay in touch with my earlier self. Here, in my online gallery, I return to my first love - tentatively, hesitantly, with fear and trepidation that I may be rejected for having stayed away too long. -Susan Hahn, April 21, 2014
