Artist Statement
Growing up in Kensington, MD, a suburb of Washington, DC, Sigrid was the middle of 5 children. Known as the Artistic One, she has been creating artwork since she was old enough to hold a pencil. There were classes in college, but it wasn't until her adult years that she developed her skill in a formal way.

She moved to Southern California in 1976. Her first oil was in 1978 when she accompanied a friend to an art class held in a local artist s garage who was known as the "flower lady". At that time basic technique secrets were revealed to make painting purposeful and infused with meaning.

Sigrid painted oils exclusively for many years until in 1992 the opportunity to step into the world of watercolors presented itself. She discovered a whole new vista of complexity and nuance - finally she had found a medium that allowed her to express the delicacy and depth she'd been seeking.

There was an avalanche of new works: landscapes, seascapes, portraits and water creatures. Her first career as a financial controller began to lose appeal and she finally made the decision to pursue her lifetime dream of being a fulltime artist. Influences from visits to the beaches in the Outer Banks of North Carolina began to surface. A fascination with light, water and clouds began to dominate.

Sigrid still lives in Southern California and has a studio where she puts a piece of her soul into each creation.
