Artist Statement Originally from Anniston, Alabama, Sharon moved to Birmingham in 1996 to pursue a career in the computer industry. . She has been drawing and painting since childhood, but was discouraged from pursuing art education in favor of business. Assuming herself to be talent free, she focused her creative energy into her home remodel.
When she became pregnant with her son, she found herself with a paintbrush in hand, relentlessly rendering a rainforest mural in the nursery. Her friends and family viewed the mural with shock, each exclaiming “I didn’t know you could do that!” Later, a gift of acrylics and canvases from her husband led her to her first painting on canvas.
Working simultaneously as a computer programmer and stay-at-home mom, she paints late into the night, using her everyday life and travels as inspiration. Her contemporary style incorporates a sense of humor with bold colors, interesting textures, and lively subject matter.
