Description Two corvid talons are wrapped in a red ribbon. During its creation, this passed through many symbolic representations. At first, it didn't symbolize anything special (I just liked claws), but then, with the addition of the rope and blood, it began to suggest binding pain, and inertia. Later, it danced over into sensuality and willing imprisonment, but then, back to unwilling binding. Apparently, it wants to mean many things. This bird is imprisoned. If it is an unwilling captive or not is up to you. :)
Keely Dolan, Seattle Member Since January 2009 Artist Statement My name is Keely Dolan, and I'm a Seattle based artist. I work in many mediums, but primarily in the hyper-detailed medium of scratchboard, manipulating it uniquely like a very fine woodcut. I often add watercolor to my finished pieces, which, on the starkness of the white of the uncovered scratchboard, often gives my originals a jewel-like quality.
My inspiration comes from dreams and nature, with a sprinkling of the occult. I am interested in the symbolism of nature and how it can transcend into our sleeping hours.
