Artist Statement Grown up and based in London for the full 27 years of my life. Making things and creating has been a part of my personality as far back as my memory takes me. It seemed an obvious path for me to take, the path though various curricula and institutions, following a subject matter I naturally loved...Art.
Through GCSE, A-Level, an Art Foundation course and finally a BA Fine Art, I have varied in my interests and practice. My surroundings, peers and head space have all been a resource for ideas. As hard as I find it to see any particular themes or styles in my work, I can pinpoint fashions in the media I work with. Animation was an early interest, and I gained some work experience in this field. I have experimented with stop-frame though I am the first to admit I struggle with the patience such a practice needs.
After a film studies course at A-Level, cinematography began to influence my work more and more, leading into my own short film making, and theatrical styled sculptures and installations. Organising various group exhibitions in interesting spaces was an important activity during my degree period. Post degree I spent two years working as an Art Department assistant for various film and television production companies. This was a great outlet for me, giving me skills like working under pressure, developing an eye for detail, and identifying styles and themes. It was a great way to be creative but also have some sense of direction and control.
I have always enjoyed photography, as I am fascinated with memories. I am in a constant state of reminiscence, sometimes living a little too much in my memories. Photography really feeds this habit for me, so it has re-occurred through out my work, either for research or as part of final pieces. Of course, it is also an important way of documenting the various works I have produced...which you will see on this site.
Currently I am involved with a number of different projects. I have just begun a lease on a studio space where I hope to develop new work. I am also continuing with various photography projects: some live music/performance photography, conceptual pieces and documenting my own work.
