Description On the shore of Virginia is one of the most serene and beautiful places on the eastern coast known as Chincoteague Island. This little fishing village sits on miles of undeveloped beaches, marshes and grasslands which are filled with migratory birds and wildlife. In addition to its quiet beauty and rich wildlife, Chincoteague is famous for its wild ponies that can be seen roaming through the national preserve there, and whose ancestors, legend has it, escaped from a sinking Spanish gallion hundreds of years ago, and swam to shore. Next to Chincoteague is Assateague Island, home to a National Wildlife Preserve. I spent several days there last summer, amazed at the incredible lighting, and painted this scene over and over again to try to capture the ever-changing color patterns throughout the day. This Giclee from my ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING captures a misty morning in early autumn on the marshes of the Assateague Preserve.
Susan Cone Porges, Ohio Member Since October 2007 Artist Statement My subject matter is the world around me... I am endlessly interested in nature, travel, people, and those are the things I love to paint. I travel as much as I can, and am never without my sketchbook, watercolors, and camera, capturing what I can to bring back to my studio for further examination. I adore paint! I adore color! And I LOVE having the gift of being able to work with them! I hope my paintings bring many years of enjoyment to you and all who view them.
