Artist Statement John Richardson

John Richardson (1951, Dallas, United States) is a digital artist who works in Photoshop, Illustrator and Corel Painter. By exploring the concept of digital media in a nostalgic way, Richardson tries to focus on the activity of presenting old works in a modern concept. The character, shape or content of the presented artwork is essential to the moment and the intention of viewer.

His artworks are characterized by the use of everyday objects in an atmosphere which recognition plays an important role. By pushing the evocative power of the work a little further, he investigates the dynamics of artwork, including the manipulation of its effects and the limits of spectacle based on our assumptions of what the art means to us. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of our imagination.

His works establish a link between the artworks reality and that imagined by its viewer. These works focus on concrete questions that determine our perceptions. By taking daily life as subject matter while commenting on the everyday aesthetics, he often creates work using wishful view of life, but these are never permissive. When viewing his art, different rules apply than in everyday life and even everyday objects undergo transubstantiation.

His works are presented with the aim is to provide an idealistic view and to identify where light and the environment are important. The energy of a place and its emotional impact are always important. John Richardson is a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals and currently lives and works in Fort Worth.
