Sarah Hood is a figurative painter influence and inspired by the Fauvist artist in art history. Coming from the French word fauve, meaning "wild animals," Fauvism rejected traditional painting ideals and emphasized modern concepts. Inspired by the late impressionist works of Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh who pushed the boundaries with their bold colour choices, Hood takes this idea a step further to include simplified design.
Whilst studying for her painting degree at manchester Hood set about writing a 10,000 word disertation titled' Primitivism in Art'. It was here that she learnt that the Fauvist’s work was derived from primitive and tribal art; also about Paul Gauguin’s color choice and style. Hood gives life to her paintings with her use of intense colours.
The primary focus of Hood's paintings is her application of non-naturalistic and vibrant colour.
Sarah Hood now lives and works in the mountainous countryside in Spain with her 7 Labradors and Danish Mastiff.
