Description Hand colored photo from 1942, AprilOriginal Title: Chicago, IllinoisPhotographer: Jack DelanoLocation: Hovering above 63 W Huron St, Chicago, ILYou really get a sense of what the city looked like from the view of a pigeon. Below us is an unmarked church, it was built in 1912, and survived as a structure till 2018. A hair salon by the name of Van Cleef Hair Studio existed there for at least 20 years, Michelle Obama frequented the place. There are quite a few churches, in the back, the white tall one, is the Holy Name Cathedral, located at the corner of State and Superior. On the left, that brown one just peeking out is the St. James Chapel of the Quigley Preparatory Seminary.Today, you can't see those churches, this view is covered up by very tall buildings. Most of the buildings from that pink apartment and on, are either large stores are parking structures. Only a few buildings survived, that Victorian and the one next to it in front, those two churches I mentioned. That tall red and tan building, and a few in the back including a hotel.
