Artist Statement Hello! My name is Lonnie L West, Welcome to my Studio/ Gallery, I am 54 years old ,I live in Santee CA, just east of San Diego with my wife and stepson, two dog(Rocket& Rusty)and our bird (Birdy Bird).I have been in SoCa,for all but 6 months of my life, I was moved here the year I was born in 1957, my Farther was in the Navy and was transfer to San Diego, the only time I left here was when I was in the Army from 1978 to 1983 where I spent two years in Germany and almost two years in Tennesee,and then when I was in the National Guard from 1998 to 2004,in 2003 I went to Dugway Proving Grounds Utah, to serve on security task force called operation Noble Eagle, I was there for 6 months this is when the art bug bit me and when my interest started. Though when I was younger in High School I use to draw cartoons, then I went to school for architectural drafting at a trade school for one year. While I was in Utah during my spare time I started drawing abstract design with pen and color pencils using printing paper I drew hundreds of them, after I came home I discover oil pastel and ink markers and started using 18x24 vellum paper I did this for a few years, and this led me to paints and I experimented with different paints doing mixed media with oil pastel and acrylics with spray paints then I found my true passion was simply me the paints the brush and the canvas, ABSTRACT EXPRESSISOLISM,is energies flowing from to the brush and paints transferring to the canvas which is the receptor and the projector, trying to define emotions with paints as music does with sound, Its conveying to not to see from the outside but what is from the inside (it’s not what it is, it what it is not)Its using colors in harmony to invoke the inner feelings and hoping that when observed by others they can relate to this. My art is energies of myself; it’s an inspirational experience, a passionate force that becomes a motivational desire perpetuating forward each time the brush the paint and the canvas come together in a rhythm of dance, interperating the moment.
