Description Childhood memories of the Coney Island boardwalk in Brooklyn, New York are unavoidable when I think of my youth. Arcades and fast food places fill this place. People from all over come to partake of the excitement. The parachute jump is seen in the distance. It hasn't been working in years. As a child, I knew I would never ride this daredevil orange monster. I was always in awe of my older sister who lived to tell the story of her journey to the top of the world. Coney Island boardwalk and rides risk being torn down. If you look at the boards, they are worn and broken. Over the years, it has become seedy. It needs a good face lift, but not a total razor cut. I hope they save it. Coney Island has found its' way into books, movies and songs. It has, in my opinion, achieved landmark status.
Madeline Ellis, New York Member Since December 2007 Artist Statement I am married and I have one daughter, 30 and the cutest grand dog, Luke. I studied photography and interior design. I enjoy blending the two. Almost everything that I shoot ends up on my wall and enhances my space. I have had one women shows in Manhattan and my work has been in photography magazines as well. Recently, a photo of mine was purchased by Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. When someone purchases one of my photos, I become a part of their life and in a small way have brightened up their space. It is a very gratifying feeling.
