rock solid
tonight the river
sparkling in moonlight
surrounded by ancient cliffs
glowing like polished copper
is beautiful to look at
you were beautiful to look at too
(probably still are)
strong and solid with a smile
that could break hearts
(and did - i wonder how many)
and if the years have left you
a bit lined and craggy
i'm sure it only adds
hell's own amount of dash
to all that charm
i watch the river
and see you lying naked
waiting for me
in light of the summer moon
bronzed and hard and ready
unmoving
impatience sparking off your skin
oh you loved me
(euphemistically)
like a rock
but that was the only good part
you were strong and solid
and beautiful to look at
but underneath that easy charm
hid a heart that didn't beat
but merely sat
granitic unfeeling implacable
and unlike mine
unbreakable
