Description Taken on the early evening drive back from Milford sound at one of the many stunning and lushly vegetated mountain rivers that flows through the rugged terrain near the famous Milford Sound in New Zealand. This was one of the most beautiful areas I have ever seen. There were too many beautiful sights to see and photograph, and so little time to do it. I could have spent days just on this stretch of highway. Deep in a mountainous valley, in the fading afternoon sun, I wanted to make a photo that captured the 'Lost World' atmosphere of the scene. I took a one second exposure on tripod to turn the white water into the fluffy cotton-wool like effect you can see here. The saturation has been pushed a bit beyond reality, but I think it suits the magical feel of the scene. Despite being somewhat rushed to take the photo (we had to get back to our room before dark - the mountain roads are dangerous at night), it was a very peaceful place, which comes across in the photo I think.
