Artist Statement I've been involved in landscape and nature photography since the late 1970's where my first camera was a Minolta XG-7 SLR with a set of Rokkor lenses. After I retired from a career as a software engineer I've had much more time to devote to it. Because photography went digital, I've had to learn many new skills, which to me made it so much more enjoyable. One of the things I enjoyed the most was scanning in old slides and negatives, cleaning out the scratches and blemishes, and post processing new life into them. I also enjoy the digital processing of images from the newer digital cameras. One of my favorite activities is using my HDR software (currently Photomatix) to combine several images of the same scene (bracketing) to achieve a very dynamic result - especially with clouds. Since I switched over from Windows to Linux several years ago, I began to use GIMP as my post processing tool (replacing Photoshop). The functionality of both tools are similar with the exception that GIMP is free, as is Linux. I also enjoy providing many of my images as free downloads (usually 2500 pixels on the long side). I've lived in Colorado for long periods of time and most of my photography was done here. Needless to say, Colorado, along with much of the US West, is a photographer's paradise.
