Artist Statement It was nearly three years ago when I borrowed my mother’s camera and trudged out into 6 inches of snow to photograph the sparkling pines behind my home and the buried houses lining my street. Just another snow day became a turning point, and as my freezing hands grasped the camera’s body and my eyes peered up through the lens, I saw something more than the frozen landscape: I saw a beginning. Since that day, photography has become a way of life for me. What started out as a simple hobby has since seemed to have intertwined with my genetic code, as though taking pictures is just another characteristic of my being. It’s funny to think that something as seemingly simple as a camera has transformed my life, my vision, but it has. Somehow beauty everywhere seems intensified by the thought that it can be preserved forever on a strip of film. Through these years, I have changed, and hopefully grown, as has my work. It’s a wonderful thing, so see how far you have come. And so I’ve come to ask you to join me on this journey, to watch me transform, into all I hope to be.
