Artist Statement I discovered my inner photographer after I purchased my first digital camera circa 1999. It was a Sony Mavica that saved about 20 images to a discette. The camera was less than 1 megapixel but took terrific close-up AND action shots. A couple of years ago I upgraded to a Nikon D-70 and entered the world of DSLR's. I have no formal training in photography but feel wonderfully inspired when I'm behind the lens..."good as candy" as an old favorite dj of mine is fond of saying. Speaking of dj's, I have been volunteering as a folk music dj at a local community college radio staion, www.kbcs.fm, for the last 22 years and a not unusual refrain reverberating from folk music songwriters goes something like this: "I don't write the songs, the songs appear to me and I write them down". With my photography, I feel that I don't "find the image" as much as the image "finds me" at which time I hope I am fortunate enough to have my camera.
My friend and fellow dj at kbcs.fm, Jean Brendecke, took the image of me at the top of this page. We both love The Vancouver Folk Music Festival.
