Description Sun dogs, technically called 'parhelion' (single) or 'parhelia' (two), are bright spots in the sky found flanking the sun under certain weather conditions having to do with ice crystals in the atmosphere. This one was seen near Loch Raven in Baltimore, fairly early after sunrise.
