Artist Statement Bio Statement:


Shawn Skeir is a Toronto artist, illustrator and performer. Shawn has
been a part of the vibrant Toronto art scene for many years and has a
wide following. His work is rooted in an emotional urban
expressionist style that echoes the movement of light and colour. In
some of Shawn's work, strong influences of his East Coast and
Afro- Canadian heritage can be seen. Shawn is a consummate painter, inspired
and guided by the unexpected results the paint medium can create.


My Images are based on a long standing relationship with graphic design, movement and colour.
“ Walking Celebration 2008” was originally an acrylic painting that was then transformed into a giclee print.
It was inspired by my interest and graphics and Asian style calligraphy. I strove to create an image that represented immediate movement with a feeling of unity and fluidity; almost like writing with a calligraphy brush. I wanted this image to serve as a reminder that we should celebrate our heritage , unity , and diversity; and draw from each other's cultural and traditional experiences.
