Description This ancient bristlecone pine is still standing even though it is no longer living. Notice the young trees growing nearby. These trees are able to grow on the dolomite slopes of the White Mountains of Eastern California, where competition for water and sun is minimal. These are the oldest living complex organisms on this planet. Core samples show the oldest to be over 4700 years old, and still living and growing.
