Artist Statement Meet the Artist -
Vicki S. Vaden
My interest in art began as a child while spending countless hours
watching my father, Doyle Vaden, sketch detailed architectural
drawings of the vanishing historic landmarks of the southeastern
United States.
Dad taught me to look for the art that surrounds us. He wanted my
brothers and I to notice and appreciate the tiniest details that make
up the whole. That appreciation grew into a desire to share what I
saw as beauty. To do that I had to develop the skills to relay what
I saw with some degree of accuracy. Recently, I've become more
comfortable in stretching the "accuracy" concept.
During the 1970's and 1980's Dad was known as the "South's
Leading Graphic Historian " and I was also beginning to show
my work in juried art shows. Our family traveled full-time on the
professional art show circuit selling limited edition prints and
original art.
I became interested in commercial graphic arts in the 1980's and
learned the associated technical skills with a ten-year stretch in
the printing industry. During this time my work focused on client
needs instead of art for art's sake.
In 1992, I left the printing field to follow growing interests in buying
and reselling antiques. In 1994 I opened my own shop, Grandma's
Attic Antiques in Crossville, TN, which I still operate today.
Art is a strong element in my life. I continue to pursue original works
in watercolor, pen & ink and photography, as well as, carvings and
digital images. I'm also available for commissions and commercial
graphics on a contract basis.
All those years I spent in the printing business have been very
valuable to me in demanding the highest quality possible for prints.
The prints in this gallery are available in several sizes. I've chosen
imagekind because of their commitment to excellence in the repro-
duction of my work. Rest assured that I have checked the other
services and imagekind will print and safely ship excellent quality
prints at great prices - and most importantly, they stand behind
their work 100%. In other words, if there is ever a problem, you can
talk to a real person at imagekind who will make sure that the order
is done right.
