Artist Statement Sheila Sauvageau was born and raised in Dickinson, ND. Her Facebook/Instagram /Twitter accounts are found at Sheila Sauvageau Artist. She currently resides in Minneapolis Minnesota. Sheila is a graduate of University of Minnesota Moorhead.
Sheila has had a successful career as a Jewelry Designer and a Professional Decorative Finish Painter specializing in murals, boarders and multi layered complex decorative faux finishes. In her spare time, she also Authored two published children’s books.
Having never been formally trained as an artist Sheila developed her artistic ability since childhood. Each work of art Sheila creates is a story told in color, texture and symbolism. I’ve always been attracted to vibrant colors, textures, unusual and unconventional imagery. “I Draw my inspiration from the beauty of God’s creations in the world that I observe. I am not a cookie cutter educated artist and because of being self-taught I like to create my artwork with things other than artist brushes. In fact, I rarely use any sort of brush on my paintings. I use my hands and other unconventional application methods to create the extreme movement and layering of vibrant color you see in my work.”
Sheila is a mixed media artist currently working with watercolor and acrylic paint and photography and digital media.

Sheila photographs her own paintings. This gives her the ability to capture the original painting with its complex colors along with the paintings movement. She personally manipulates the hue and color and saturation levels of her original paintings resulting in creating a variety of additional color options not seen in the original artwork. As a result, several colorful options of the same painting are available to create a wide variety of emotional connections and displaying options.
