Description Here's some comments from my blog about this coloured pencil drawing of the interior of a pale blue/lilac iris: 'You've definitely capture the delicate, almost transparent nature of this flower. Beautiful work...almost intoxicating to look at.''I love the iris a la O'Keefe (a favorite artist). It brought back wonderful childhood memories of peeping inside those domed petals (or are they sepals?). My mother always planted the purple colors, and I loved the contrast of the little yellow beards. I could look at this for days...'Copyright: Katherine Tyrrell
I have a longstanding commitment to the value of drawing and use of dry media and am particularly interested in the subtleties of colour. I'm stimulated by repetition and variation - by the shapes and patterns I find in the natural world, the structure of objects and places and the way in which light impacts on both colour and form. In relation to places, my preference is to work from life wherever possible and I very much enjoy working "en plein air" and in public places.
Critical acclaim of my artwork focuses on my drawing skills and my use of colour. I exhibit in the UK and overseas and with various national art societies and I have work in private collections in the UK, Australia and the USA.
