Description Henri-Gabriel Ibells, L'Escarmouche.1893. Paris, Imprimerie Eugne Verneau. 'L'Escarmouche' translates to mean 'The Skirmish' and this was a very controversial image when it was created because of the sharp contrast between the common workers inside the tavern, and the armed soldiers outside. In the lower right hand corner, it is explicitly stated that the poster was only to be put up indoors, not out in the streets.
