lady of the lake
he was big and loud addicted to television and testosterone rock he'd have one-sided arguments with newscasters and stamp and cheer for the red wings and had an opinion on everything under the sun
it wasn't a small apartment but even when he was silent he filled it with noise and didn't understand why i was up late every night
it's 2 AM he'd call come to bed not yet i'd answer what are you doing my answer was always the same working he'd grunt and grumble and eventually snore
i could never make him see the reality of me couldn't find a way to tell him to paint the visions weave the words i must shed the chaff of the world but he didn't like poetry and said my art looked like wallpaper
i tried to explain how only in the quiet will the magick ripple in arising from the dark lake of the unconscious borne on the wings of creatures only i can see but nothing i said ever sunk in and he'd snort and turn away
i wasted precious hours wondering why at first he pretended to be interested pretended to care and then married me
after he left the apartment was always quiet the lake was always there rippling undisturbed by barbarian incursions i wasted no more time wondering about anything and my only regret was that it took him so long to leave ~ copyright 2016 RC deWinter
