Artist Statement I was born and raised in Gifu, a central mountainous region of Japan. Painting was always my passion although I pursued international studies in college which led me to come to the United States, my love of art always pulled at me and I graduated with an art degree from Colorado Women's College in 1977. With raising a family and traveling with my husband I was only painting occasionally. Ever since we moved here to Washington with its majestic nature, I am picking up brush again. My husband and I share a love of hiking and there is such an enormous wealth of beauty I could never paint it all. I hope to capture some of the excitement I feel from this wonderland, the mountains, trees, flowers, and water in the ever changing light and shadow. I am also interested in children’s portraits. It’s very rewarding when you can capture the essence of the child’s mood and character so full of life. I have also done some professional illustration. I did the cover art and some of the drawings for my husband's children's book, Spectacular Journey, ISBN 978-097714826-4 available from amazon.com.
