Description Based on stylized mid-century design forms that I've been playing around with for many years now, such as my dingbat font 'Satellite' (dingbatcave.com). This sputnik features green-tinted plexiglass and flared bellbottom loudspeakders, specially-formulated for broadcasting monthly air-raid siren tests. We used to have one of those sirens in our back yard when my parents rented a ranch-style house in Colorado. They weren't nearly as attractive as these on the Sputnik. Interior of speakers features a psychedelic coating. Center is cast pewter. I see we're entering the late mid-century in the sputnik sequence, where psychedelic references and cast pewter reign supreme. Floats over an earthly planet.
Ann Stretton, Mount Horeb Member Since November 2010 Artist Statement I am both a mixed media painter and digital artist. I've been exhibiting since the early 1980s, and creating digital images since 1985. I received my BFA from Colorado State in 1984 and my MFA from The University of Wisconsin in 1993. I work with "mixed metallic media"--metal leaf, prismatic glitter and nacreous paint. My computer-created works also utilize "metal" as well as luscious color and light.
