Description Based on stylized mid-century design forms that I've been playing around with for many years now, such as my dingbat font 'Satellite' (dingbatcave.com). I never had one of those Creepy Crawler kits as a kid...the kind where you pour goop into molds, bake it a few minutes, and pull it out. They didn't just make bugs and insects--which I would've loved--they also made flowers. I acquired a couple reject flowers from classmates over time. I cherished them because I never had a creepy crawler kit of my own. This sputnik was most likely constructed with one of those kits...note the translucent flowers decorating the center. This is mid-century modernism as it enters the flower power age.
Ann Stretton, Mount Horeb Member Since November 2010 Artist Statement I am both a mixed media painter and digital artist. I've been exhibiting since the early 1980s, and creating digital images since 1985. I received my BFA from Colorado State in 1984 and my MFA from The University of Wisconsin in 1993. I work with "mixed metallic media"--metal leaf, prismatic glitter and nacreous paint. My computer-created works also utilize "metal" as well as luscious color and light.
