Description N Pali Coast State Park encompasses 6,175 acres of land and is located in the center of the rugged 16 miles along the northwest side of Kauai, the oldest inhabited Hawaiian island. The N Pali coast itself extends southwest starting at Kee Beach extending all the way to Polihale State Park. The pali (cliffs) rise as high as 4,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean. This image was created from the lookout (Lolo No.2 ) at the end of the Nu' alolo Trail that descends from Koke'e Lodge at 3816 ft to 2234 ft at the lookout in 4 miles. By means of the Nu' alolo Cliff Trail (2.2 miles) and the Awa' Awapuhi Trail (3.1 miles), this can be made into a loop trail - though that trail ends at a different point and one needs to hike another 1 1/2 miles along Hwy 550 (unless you have two cars or get picked up).Had to borrow my wife's lens for this shot (24-120/3.5-5.6); we only took one camera bag (back pack) - and it was filled to capacity with my D300, D200 (back-up), 80-400 VR (might not have been the best choice but I didn't want to purchase the 70-300 VR extra for this trip), 12-24/4 (main lens), and 35/1.8 as well as her F100 with 24-120 and 20/2.8 (wasn't used at all). Normally, I would have taken the 10.5, 11-16 and 17-55 and either the 85/1.8 and/or the 150/2.8; I really don't want to purchase a lens just for traveling but something like the Sigma 17-70/2.8-4 OS HSM would come in handy quite often (useful range, macro feature and above all, OS/VR). The Nikon 16-85 VR would be another choice - even better range and the f/5.6 towards the long end might not matter much for a travel lens (still, it would be a no brainer if the lens was f/4 throughout).
