Description Nerium oleander is an evergreen shrub or small tree in the dogbane family Apocynaceae. Oleander is one of the most commonly grown garden plants worldwide. However, the beautiful Oleander is poisonous and a major cause of death in tropical and subtropical countries. At the end of each branch, white, pink, or red clusters of delicate flowers bloom in profusion. It typically grows around river beds, ponds, and streams and can withstand harsh droughts. Without pruning, this shrub or small tree can grow up to 20 feet. Vincent van Gogh depicted the beauty of these flowers in his famous still life, 'Oleanders.' The official flower of the city of Hiroshima is the Oleander, having been the first to bloom following the atomic bombing of the city in 1945. Oleander Botanical is a digital composite created from original photographs captured in Florida.
