Description The Wellsboro, PA region can be viewed as a grand topographic sculpture of rolling hills, troughs, valleys, ridges and ravines. The rural landscape of fields and pastures, hedgerows and woodlands, crops and corrals, barns and homes, hay bales and fences articulates and reveals the beautiful qualities this topographical masterpiece. In this manner, a mowed edge in a large grass field defines an area for haying. But, it also creates a diagonal line that highlights the hill's sweeping slope, while a line of hay bale rolls and a sole tree define its ridge. The blue sky above gives the hilltop a sense of loftiness to its height. The line of white clouds above the ridge adds dimension to the vastness of space that lies beyond. The hope is that this photograph becomes a documentation of the sculptural quality of this particular part of the grand topography.
Brian Rojo, Arlington, MA. Member Since March 2011 Artist Statement I'm a landscape architect with a curious eye for finding beauty and meaning in unexpected places. My portfolio contains many subjects, with an emphasis on landscape and architectural photography. I worked as a landscape architect for many years until I became disabled with a genetic disorder. As a result, I'm using photography as a means of expression, replacing the artistic sensibilities that I once found in my profession of designing landscapes and gardens. My aim is to seek out strong compositions and unique viewpoints of familiar and unfamiliar subjects. My interests range from rural to urban landscape, from modern to historic architecture, from plants to vernacular objects, from a sense of place to a sense of wonder. Ultimately, I hope to encourage others to find the beauty in their environment, and to be curious of the unfamiliar.
