Description This is a pen and ink drawing of Polly, my Abyssinian cat. I used sepia coloured ink which suits the 'usual' colour of her fur. I've produced it as a study for a work for the annual exhibition of the Society of Feline Artists. Polly has fixed me with one of her stares. It means 'I have you under my spell. You WILL go to the kitchen and open another tin of cat food before Cosmo wakes up and wants some too!'
I have a longstanding commitment to the value of drawing and use of dry media and am particularly interested in the subtleties of colour. I'm stimulated by repetition and variation - by the shapes and patterns I find in the natural world, the structure of objects and places and the way in which light impacts on both colour and form. In relation to places, my preference is to work from life wherever possible and I very much enjoy working "en plein air" and in public places.
Critical acclaim of my artwork focuses on my drawing skills and my use of colour. I exhibit in the UK and overseas and with various national art societies and I have work in private collections in the UK, Australia and the USA.
