Description The Red Velvet ant, Dasymutilla occidentalis, is also known as the Cow-killer ant due to its painful sting. Contrary to its name it is neither an ant, nor is it able to kill cows with its sting. It is, in reality, a flightless wasp. Its red coloration makes it easy to see while crawling along the ground here in the Southeast U.S.
Joshua And Kelly Clark, Woodbine, Georgia Member Since July 2008 Artist Statement Hi, we are Josh and Kelly Clark of Woodbine, Georgia. We are twin brothers working at the College of Coastal Georgia in the Natural Sciences Department. We have always had a love for the natural world and enjoy drawing in our spare time. Our nature artwork comes from our time spent outdoors. Occasionally, we spot an animal or plant that inspires us, and we then get our next subject to draw. Drawing these subjects brings us joy, and we hope that you choose to purchase and enjoy them as well!
