Artist Statement Bio:
I was born in Houston, Texas, in 1976. I was educated in Math and Mechanical Engineering. After a couple years' career, I felt dissatisfied and decided to pursue my childhood passion for creating. I worked in ceramics and ironwork, for a few years before settling on drawing and watercolor crayon painting. In 2009, I was diagnosed with brain cancer and underwent surgery and cancer treatment. The tumor, surgery, and radiation caused my left arm, hand, and leg to be disabled. Since I became ill, art has been a great help to me through the treatment and medications. I'm unable to do many of the activities I used to, but I can still draw. I began sharing my work online in the Flickr community. It has been a huge support. I live in Austin

Artist's Statement
In my artistic explorations, I've tried photography, ceramics, metalwork, printmaking, and now drawing and painting. However, before all that, I studied math and engineering. From an early age I felt attracted to tools and machines. Mechanical things came naturally to me. Early in my art making career, I was heavily influenced by the American Abstract Expressionists. More recently I moved towards representation, especially animals and portraits. Now, in my art, I am discovering ways to combine the mechanical with the handmade. I think of my current work as a kind of hand colored photo print. I work in a small space on small and medium size pads of paper. I feel it's a more intimate process, and it allows me to work in series more easily, so I can learn and grow as an artist. I'm still early in my art career. Learning, exploration, growth, and feedback are my main priorities.
