Vicki Van Vynckt, Tryon Member Since October 2013 Artist Statement Thank you so much for visiting my art gallery on imagekind.com! I would like to share with you a little about myself and background as an artist. This year I celebrated my 30th anniversary of painting in oils. I have always been encouraged to do artwork by my mother when I was a child. My grandfather had painted landscapes and portraits in oils his whole life, so art was a natural thing to do in our family.
I attended the University of Southern Indiana and received a degree in Fine Art in 1990. After that I moved to Minneapolis, MN and began learning how to paint plein-air style on location. For many years I studied under a master teacher of this method before moving out to Santa Fe, NM in 2004. I then began painting my "Above the Horizon" series of large sunsets depicting the southwestern sky in all it's glory.
I currently live in Tryon, NC and teach oil painting lessons, as well as exhibit in several galleries. My work has been seen in over 60 exhibitions, many of them solo.
Painting for me is an expression of gratitude for the gifts that nature provides us. It is my intention to express in my art the ever present Life Force that weaves its way through all things and breathes life into our world. I use vivid color to create a harmonious blend of imagery. I hope that those who view my paintings will feel uplifted in some way, and perhaps even feel the connection with nature that I had while creating the piece. Being a poet and coming from an artistic family, I see art as a doorway to the higher self, and therefore an important aspect of my life.
