Description Steptoe and Son was a British sitcom written by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson about two rag and bone men living in Oil Drum Lane, a fictional street in Shepherd's Bush, London. Made in 1962 in black and white, the series focussed on the inter-generational conflict between father and son. Wilfred Brambell played Albert Steptoe, scrap yard merchant, whose run down premises and horse's stable added to the character of the man.
