Description This macro photograph of a South African strawflower shows incredible detail in the center. These plants are unusual. The petals are so dry and stiff even when fresh and still growing that they are often collected for use in dried flower bouquets. This photograph was taken at the UCSC Arboretum in Santa Cruz, CA in December.
Sheryl Karas, Santa Cruz Member Since May 2007 Artist Statement Hello! Welcome to my Imagekind art gallery. I've been an artist in one way or another since childhood but only started showing my drawings and graphic art in recent years. I work in a variety of media—acrylic paint, silk dyes, pen and ink, and digital photography—but in one way or another all my work is converted to digital where I can mix in type and other digital effects. What does that make it? Mixed-media? I guess so.
As you look around my gallery you'll soon find out that some of my images come from a flower essence self-awareness deck I'm currently creating. I make part of my living selling flower essence enhanced healing organic perfume (http://www.mamaloveproducts.com) and doing spiritual counseling and healing with my partner Paul Hood. You can learn more at http://www.healingcommunication.com.
What I love about this site is that I can offer you my favorite art pieces on a variety of archival quality papers, cropped the way I want them, with a huge array of matting and framing options--including no mat or frame at all or printed on canvas. You can also find my work, however, printed on greeting cards, T-shirts and a great array of nice yet inexpensive gifts. Visit the gift shop I share with my partner Paul Hood to see them all.
