Description I enjoy illustrating events symbolically. Each part of this picture illustrates something about my life, they are as follows: Me rock climbing: Occasionally I will go rock climbing with my brothers when we get together. The thrill of the wind blowing on you while you are hanging by your fingers and toes on the edge of a cliff is quite a rush.My tumor: In High school I had a 'spot' on the bottom of my tongue and after getting a biopsy done with the results pointing to it being a benign tumor of some sort it was removed. Being a teacher and talking every day to students, staff and parents it really hits home that I might have lost the ability to speak. It could have been much worse and the question of 'why' did I survive has every since been in the back of my mind? My first car accident: Coming home from Basketball practice one rainy night, driving to fast around a sharp turn and loosing control. I've never forgotten the slow motion feeling as I sailed by the telephone pole not knowing if I would hit it head on or miss it. I've since slowed down. The Death Star: Star Wars has always been an impressive piece of science fiction that some of my best childhood memories revolve around. Countless hours of enjoyment. Lucas' creativity has always impressed me; so much fun!
Tobin Springs, Seattle Member Since May 2007 Artist Statement I am an artist. I love looking for an original idea, a new way of thinking, and seeing the beauty in things. Creativity and humor are important to me and I do what I can to facilitate an environment that have these present. I draw my inspiration from the people I meet and various events in my life. It is my goal not to just keep seeing that the glass is half full, but rather to find the source of the water that is filling the glass.
I am an Art teacher to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders within the Tukwila School District In Washington State. I enjoy teaching and the energy that kids bring with them wherever they go. As an adult it is important for us to recognize the power we have and just how much we influence our youth. It is my hope, that in my small way I will positively impact my students and help facilitate a better future.
Much of my Art work is inspired by my faith in God. The Bible has been a life-changing force in my life. My artwork pulls from famous Biblical people, imagery, and personally significant sections of the Bible. I look for meaning and power when considering an idea to illustrate and for me, nothing compares to my faith in my Lord Jesus Christ. Not all of my artwork has a blatant Christian theme, however, my faith flavors all aspects of my life, and my artwork is no exception.
I am honored that you have taken the time to learn a little bit more about me. God bless.
