Ian Hemingway, New York State
Member Since January 2009
Artist Statement Biography:
Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, Ian now lives & works in New York's Hudson Valley region.

Ian works with the figure, often of himself, as a point of departure in the exploration of memory and identity, both of which he lost in the aftermath of a motor-vehicle accident over a decade ago. Figures are static, contemplative in posture and clad in both literal and figurative armours; it remains securely anonymous, revealed only in body language. This armour, externalized identity, is represented in clear focus; while the ground in many works, however, is ambiguous and uncertain, demonstrating the severed identity's lack of a solid referent in time and space.
Ian has exhibited in both the United States and Canada, and is represented by Carrie Haddad Gallery.
