Byron May, Shreveport Member Since December 2010 Artist Statement I was born and grew up in the mid-size, easy going town of Shreveport, Louisiana. When I was younger I never imagined living the rest of my life in Shreveport, but as I became an adult I realized what a great place my hometown was. Then I met a beautiful and incredible Georgia girl named Seva that swept me off my feet. Three decades later we have two grown sons, two fantastic daughter-in-laws and two adorable grandsons.
After a lifelong participation in competitive golf, I was unfortunately sidelined by one botched back surgery. After two additional unsuccessful attempts to repair the damage, I have turned to another passion and jumped head first into art.
My art is a culmination of over 30 years in the graphic arts industry. Being in this creative environment has strengthened my ability to see how color, shape and design merge to form art. I enjoy the process of transforming what I imagine into what I produce. I take pleasure in turning the elements that are unassembled in my mind into something that excites and fascinates. Part of the uniqueness of my arts is its 3 dimensional qualities. When viewing my work with the proper 3-D glasses the vibrant colors seem to leap off the print. My paintings have depth you will feel you can walk into. Another unique quality of my art is the incredibly intricate and bold texture you will be tempted to reach out to touch.
Through another art medium, photography, I have succeeded in isolating specific details from my original art that will satisfy even the most refined artistic taste.
I want my art to stir your creative senses. I hope that each time you view my work you will see something that both captivates and moves you and for years to come it will make you stop and look at it as if it were new.
