Description Sometimes it's hard to explain imagination. There's no limits or boundaries Characters and situations often occur without rhyme or reason...it's a lot like dreaming. I'm not exactly sure what compelled me to draw these blue jays and their birdhouse, but the image was very clear in my head, and I didn't stop to challenge or question it. Plus I'd only be arguing with myself, and who's going to win that one?
Phil Lewis, Boulder, CO Member Since October 2007 Artist Statement Throughout my life I have always felt a special connection to nature, and being outdoors inspires me to create. The amazing scenery in Colorado has certainly fueled this inspiration, and the surrounding landscapes appear frequently in my work. In addition to drawing the things I see around me, I also like to draw the things I come up with on my own. To imagine is the most fun.
Lately I have been developing a style of artwork that combines pen drawings and digital design. I will start out with black line drawings and then color them in with Sharpie and Prismacolor markers. I then scan my drawings into Photoshop and re-brush some of the sections, add shading, effects, and adjust the colors until they “pop” as much as possible. I then print the images digitally on fine-art canvas. The resulting media is a hybrid pen-drawing / digital-canvas, which ends up looking like a giant piece of candy stuck to the wall.
I am truly humbled and grateful for the ability to create this art, and through it, I hope to bring as much color and light into the world as I can.
