Description An illustration done for The New York Times for an article about the recent trend in public schools to eliminate junk food from the daily lunch menu. The controversy that exists is over the idea that a child should be entitled to a cupcake on his/her birthday. The article examined the cupcake as a cultural icon and a piece of Americana, and conversely, as a vilified fatty junk food that's contributing to the obesity of America.
