Description Prometheus Project No.3. This series is an attempt, using periliminal methods, to visually, yet non-mimetically represent a story. First, I painted what would become #5 on plywood, which was a nice break from canvas. I wanted to name it Prometheus; however, I had already used that title but liked the theme. So I refreshed myself on the myths beyond the theft of fire and the eagle eating his liver on a daily basis in order to come up with a title. I had forgotten how many of the stories and variations in which Prometheus had a role. It inspired me to expand this into a series incorporating the woods texture as a major component in formulating the initial design and the evolution of the final image. The titles are meant to be basically chronological and reflect the tone of the image, yet are also slightly humorous, if only to me. I think of most of my paintings as meditations caught with paint. They may take awhile to take in, as they are not meant to be simple. I recommend that If you see one you like, look at it closely, then from different distances. like across the room. Pick an interesting spot and stare at it, look for a face or a figure then gradually see how it fits a larger scene or shifts into something else entirely. After that, think about the title if you desire.
