Description Im a native New Yorker. Ive lived in this frustrating city all my life. Ive hated her at times but always wind up missing her when Im away. I tell you this so that you can understand that this, and the fact that my wife was working a few blocks away from ground zero on September 11, makes the events of that fateful day very personal.Recently we visited for the first time the National September 11 Memorial. Once you have gotten beyond security it is a strangely peaceful although somber setting. There are 2 pools, North and South, around which, on the rims, are the names of those who died on September 11, both here and at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, PA as well as 6 who died in the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center. One becomes aware how many visitors have come from places around the world to visit here. In a matter of a few minutes I heard Italian, German, French, Hebrew, Spanish, Russian, etc. There were a large number of families, too many of them there to seek out the names of their loved ones that died on that day. Many were still inconsolable when they found them despite over 11 years having passed. It is a moving experience, one I would encourage you to do if you have the opportunity.
